Our office can carry out the exhumation of your loved one on your behalf, provided you submit all the documents required by the respective Municipal Cemetery, allowing us to represent you during the process.

The exhumation can also be done by you after coordinating with the Municipal Cemetery. It is NOT mandatory for you to be present during the exhumation you can wait at the cemetery office.

The exhumation can only take place AFTER the completion of three years from the burial, conducted by the staff of the Municipal Cemetery and under the responsibility of its service.

Do I have to proceed with the exhumation at the end of the 3-year period?  Absolutely.

And if it hasn’t decomposed?  An external or internal factor may have hindered the decomposition, so the most appropriate action is to assist it by opening the grave. Since this is a very painful process, we inform you that you are NOT obligated to be present during the opening of the grave and the collection of the bones.

After the exhumation:

Indissoluble Grave: A new burial space within the cemetery, in cases where the body has not fully decomposed. In this case, the burial time is extended in another location (indissoluble grave) until the decomposition is complete, and the collection of the bones can take place.

In the Cemetery’s Ossuary: When the body has fully decomposed, and the collection of the bones can be performed, they are placed in a special small metal box, which is stored in a specially designated area for an annual fee. The deceased’s full name and the number of the niche are inscribed on the box.

In the Cemetery’s Common bones grave: where all the bones of the deceased, whose families have chosen not to keep them, as well as the bones of those who were not claimed, are deposited collectively in a COMMON GRAVE. In this case, it is impossible to retrieve them later.

For cremation: Once the body has fully decomposed and the bones have been collected, they can then be sent for cremation.

The law prohibits the storage of bones outside of cemeteries, unlike ashes, which can be kept in any place the person wishes.
