Cremation is the process of burning the body instead of burial.
The process takes place in Cremation Centers.
Cremation was legalized by Law 3448/2006.
The first Cremation Center in Greece opened in September 2019 in Ritsona.
Religious Approach:
Orthodox Church: It does not accept cremation and does not perform a funeral service for those who choose it, only a memorial prayer (trisagion).
Catholic Church: It allows cremation but prefers burial.
Buddhism & Hinduism: They consider it sacred and practice it widely.
Islam & Judaism: They strictly prohibit it.
